Take the Wheel of Your Marketing Strategies
There may be a discussion going on with city councils on using Uber in Atlanta, but for me since it is so convenient and basically the best thing ever … I couldn’t resist talking about it at some point. Of course I am not getting paid for this so here goes.
We have all been riding Uber or another version of it now for over a year and it’s convenient, a quick pick-up and best of all cheap. But do you know anything about the social marketing genius behind the wheels of that department? This company has taken the hashtag to new levels, builds upon its local markets, oh and gives away kittens.
Check out the top marketing strategies you should learn from Uber:
Duh, Cue the Kitten Story.
Last year Uber made headlines by delivering kittens to customers with the potential for adoption. This was a partnership promotion with Uber, Cheezburger and local animal shelters where someone could request kittens through the app by using the hashtag #icanhasuberkittens, then an uber driver would show up with a kitten and would let you play with it for 15 minutes before moving on to the next kitten lover. This campaign raised over $15,000 for animal shelters in Seattle, NYC and San Francisco, not to mention thousands of impressions and six adopted kittens.
Having a Distinct Personality
It doesn’t matter what type of company you have you need to always make sure to speak to your consumers and followers as if they are human so that they can actually relate with you. Some brands do this by tugging on your heart (Budweiser puppies), being hip (Taco Bell), or by giving you advanced knowledge in layman terms (NASA). Uber is a professional yet playful voice in their marketing efforts. They make it widely know that they are available for customer support beyond 9-5 and the types of events they co-sponsor are always fun or for a great cause.
In Atlanta, two events stick in my mind as awesome:
- ATLMother’sDay – A portion of all proceeds this day were donated to the The Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. This is an organization that works to meet the needs of battered women and their children in and around Atlanta.
- UberOUTKAST – Anyone that requested an UberOUTKAST between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on each day of the ATLast shows were eligible to win free tickets to that days show. Not only that, but every new person that signed up to user Uber this weekend $5 would be donated to either Big Boi’s Big Kidz or Center of Hope. These are both charities members of Outkast care deeply about.
No matter what you take away from this article, just remember to keep an open mind when it comes to your marketing preferences. There is always a need to stray from your tried and true methods and take a chance on something new!
